Bhootnath Temple in Mandi

Bhootnath Temple is a medieval temple, situated in Mandi district in Himachal Pradesh. Mandi emerged as a separate state in the beginning of the sixteenth century. Down the line of descendants of Ban came Ajbar Sen, nineteenth in descent from Bahu Sen, who founded Mandi Town in 1527 AD, the Gateway to the Kullu Valley, has more than 80 temples of varying ages, scattered around the hillside.

The more famous of these are the 16th century Bhutnath Temple, the 17th century Syamkali Temple (also called the Tama Devi Temple), the Triloknath and the Panjvaktra Temples. About 24km south west of Mandi is the Rewalsar Lake, of religious significance to Buddhist, Sikhs and Hindus. There are several gomps here, a huge Guru gobind singh Gurudwara and three Hindu Temples. These are dedicated to Rishi Lomas, Shiva and Krishna.
