Ganpatipule temple in Konkan
The Ganpatipule beach is named after its most famous attraction, the 4000-year old temple dedicated to Lord Ganesh. The temple is right on the beach, at the base of a hillock. For few days, in the months of February and November, a golden shaft of sunlight illuminates the idol before dipping into the ocean. The Ganpatipule temple is one of the most important shrines in the Konkan region.
According to scriptures, this temple is one of the four gates to the subcontinent. Locally it is also referred to as Paschim Dwar Devta (Western God Sentinel). In order to pay respect to the God inside, pilgrims have to circle the entire hill. A hill walks of around 1.5 km!
