India Pilgrimages
India is the collection of holy-land and pilgrimages places for all religions. There are lot of pilgrim destinations Hindus, Muslims, Sikhs, Christians and Buddhist also. India is rich in mythology gem; it has a number of temples, mosques, monasteries, churches and gurdwaras, which attract millions of devotees to visit and get soul satisfaction.
Be it East, West, North or South, India has the proud heritage of pilgrimage centres. More so, places of Hindu worship and faith. Mingling with these are also places that enshrine the beliefs of Buddhism, Islam, Christianity, Jainism and Sikhism.
Thus India is truly the only world state that has the spirit to respect all religions and have distinct shrines for them. A riot of cultures is reflected through these religions.
The glorious Himalayas house the Chardham, the true abode of the Gods and Goddesses.
Down south, the rich temples of the Chola period stand testimony to the deep knowledge of art, science, culture and religion. Sourth-west you have the magnificence churches of Goa reverberating with its own spiritual ethos.
The Golden temple of Amritsar, the home of the Granth Sahib, the temple of miracles of Lord Jagannath of Puri, the Dargah of Moinnudin Chisti of Ajmer…..the list goes on and on. The faith unbreakable.
The glory of which is to be seen and cherished only in India.
In the pages that follow, an attempt to compile many places of religious significance for the Hindus, Sikhs, Muslims, Christians, Buddhists, Jains, Jews and Zoroastrians has been made. These demonstrate the important role that religion plays in the day-to-day life of every Indian. Space constraints prevent us from covering all the pilgrim centres of India. Any exclusion is totally unintentionally.
