Karnataka- This large littoral State in the Deccan plateau with its densely wooded seaside strip, the western Ghats tapering off into hillocks and rockey plateaus, often creating the most incredible formations of boulders, especially in the Hampi area, the parakeet green rolling crop lands and stretches of empty scrublans has an interesting patchwork quilt landscape. The state’s history is as chequered. Tracing back to 3 rd century BC when Chandragupta Maurya came to Sravanabelagola to spend his last years the region has seen the rise and fall of many proud and powerful dynasties like the chalukya, Rashtrakuta, Hoysala, vijayanagar, Bahammani and Wodeyar. Each patronised a different area of art, music, sculpture or literature, thus creating a very rich and unique cultural heritage.
